Tzu Chi’s charity work is inspired by great love to provide material and spiritual relief to anyone in need, regardless of nationality, language and religion. In 1993, Tzu Chi volunteers raised funds to help cover medical costs of the needy at Pukekohe Hospital, which marked the beginning of the Charity Mission in New Zealand. Since then, Tzu Chi has provided financial and material aid, welfare organisation support and disaster relief.
Believing that “Disease is the root cause of suffering, the origin of poverty”, Tzu Chi establishes mission of Medicine, pledging its effort around the globe. |

Complementary to already comprehensive health system in New Zealand, Tzu Chi sets focus on promotion of healthy living, awareness of disease and health services accessibility. The Mission of Medicine in New Zealand begun with the promotion of healthy living and free health screening in the Otara Community Library next to the local Saturday markets.

Tzu Chi youth group leaders collaborated with New Zealand Blood Service in advocating importance of blood and bone marrow donation. In addition, youth volunteers further organised series of group donation events targeting university students.
